PANAMA CITY BEACH announces spring break bikini parade

Guinness World Record inspires college students to defrost their bikinis

PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla., January 31, 2012 – After weeks of cold winter weather and studying for exams, many college students can hardly wait to trade their books for fun in the sun. Each year, thousands of students from across the country descend upon Panama City Beach for Spring Break, and 2012 will literally be one for the books.  On March 6, Panama City Beach hopes to smash the Guinness World Record for the World’s Largest Bikini Parade by hosting a line-up at Harpoon Harry’s restaurant, located on the sandy shores of the Gulf of Mexico.

“Our beautiful beaches have long been home to exciting events – especially during Spring Break,” said Dan Rowe, president and CEO of the Panama City Beach Convention & Visitors Bureau. “This year, we are proud to offer the Bikini Parade challenge to our spring breakers as a fun activity that will make some waves in the history books and benefit a good cause.”

The attempt challenges current record holder, Gold Coast, Australia – where 357 women paraded last year, and will benefit a charity with a $1,000 donation from event organizers. The competition has been heating up between the coastal communities, with statements from the Australians declaring their intentions to retain the title. Rules for participating on either coast are simple: bikinis of all colors and designs are welcome, but tankinis, one-piece suits, shorts or cover-ups will not make the count.
